graphic General pricing

This information is meant as a general guideline for website pricing. There are many factors that have to be taken into consideration for final pricing. Before I list some of the variables that we can encounter which affect overall website pricing, I want to give you some GENERAL pricing guidelines.

If your business wishes to be indexed in the main Search Engines on the Internet, it MUST have some "meat" in it. That is to say, original content. With the hundreds of millions pages vying for attention in these searchable databases, the larger and important ones are becoming increasingly selective as to which get indexed, and which do not.

A few years ago, all someone had to do was put up a single page on the Web, submit it to a Directory like Yahoo!, or a Search Engine like Lycos, and after a few weeks, it was there and accessible to everyone. Now, due to the increasing competition for listing space, ad revenue and user loyalty, some of these major Internet databases will NOT accept a simple one or two page website. Additionally most of the larger search engines now have minimum standards for websites.

Consequently, if you wish to have a Web Presence for your business, and you want to look credible and meet the submission guidelines of many of the major search engines, it takes more content, money and expertise now, than it used to.

For a low-budget website, with minimal graphics and content, we recommend that you spend at least $800-1,200 plus tax. For this amount we can give you a good start and a credible foundation to build upon. We do NOT recommend that you spend more than you can afford initially, but don't skimp either if you are serious about the Internet. If you wish to project an image that says you are a viable, professional, and credible business which is here to stay, then a budget of $1,500 to $5,000 is more realistic (depending on the bells and whistles you need).

Remember, while the Internet IS a cost effective means of marketing products and services, it is still a business marketing channel and must be treated as such to have a good chance at success. If you cut too many corners, it will hurt your chances. It is always less expensive in the long run to do things correctly in the beginning rather than trying to fix it later on at additional cost!

For those companies that need to have special programming, "whizz-bang" animations, extensive content, flash presentations, etc. The prices can be higher depending on requirements.

Here are some items that will affect the pricing structure of your website, and until we have exacting specifications for these items, we cannot quote you a credible price:

  • Custom animations
  • Custom graphics
  • Logos
  • Streaming Video, Streaming Audio, SMIL or Flash Video
  • Color/quality graphic corrections for supplied artwork (even if already digitized)
  • Scripting / Programming
  • Special Effects - like RealAudio or Windows Media sound files etc.
  • Secure Virtual Shopping Cart Systems or ordering systems
  • Text copy writing or enhancing
  • Digitizing of photos etc.
  • Additional creation of "entry pages" (or doorway pages) for specific search engines
  • Sound files of little dogs barking and howling at sirens :)
