If your business wishes to be indexed in the main Search Engines on
the Internet, it MUST have some "meat" in it. That is to say, original
content. With the hundreds of millions pages vying for attention
in these searchable databases, the larger and important ones are becoming
increasingly selective as to which get indexed, and which do not.
A few years ago, all someone had to do was put up a single page on the
Web, submit it to a Directory like Yahoo!, or a Search Engine like Lycos,
and after a few weeks, it was there and accessible to everyone. Now,
due to the increasing competition for listing space, ad revenue and
user loyalty, some of these major Internet databases will NOT accept
a simple one or two page website. Additionally most of the larger search
engines now have minimum standards for websites.
Consequently, if you wish to have a Web Presence for your business,
and you want to look credible and meet the submission guidelines of
many of the major search engines, it takes more content, money and
expertise now, than it used to.
For a low-budget website, with minimal graphics and content, we recommend
that you spend at least $800-1,200 plus tax. For this amount
we can give you a good start and a credible foundation to build upon.
We do NOT recommend that you spend more than you can afford initially,
but don't skimp either if you are serious about the Internet. If you
wish to project an image that says you are a viable, professional, and
credible business which is here to stay, then a budget of $1,500 to
$5,000 is more realistic (depending on the bells and whistles you need).
Remember, while the Internet IS a cost effective means of marketing
products and services, it is still a business marketing channel and
must be treated as such to have a good chance at success. If you cut
too many corners, it will hurt your chances. It
is always less expensive in the long run to do things correctly in
the beginning rather than trying to fix it later on at additional
cost!
